Bob Egerton background and experience

Bob has worked in business for many years, starting his career with Esso Petroleum, mainly based in London; then he ran his own printing business in Plymouth, before he joined Truro College Business Centre as a business adviser and trainer.

Bob has an M.A. from Cambridge University and a post graduate Diploma in Law. He obtained a teaching qualification whilst working at Truro College and has delivered many training sessions in a variety of subjects.

Bob was elected to Cornwall Council at the first elections for the new unitary authority in 2009 to represent Probus, Tregony and Grampound division. He stood as an Independent candidate and was re-elected in 2013 and 2017. From 2017 to 2020, he served on the Cabinet of the Council as portfolio holder for Planning and Economy. He did not seek re-election in 2021.

During his term of office, Bob diligently attended nearly every meeting of the parish councils within his division, totalling over 350 over the 12 years! This enabled him to compare and contrast how different parish councils dealt with the issues that they face. He acted as a conduit between the parish council and Cornwall Council and was able to give appropriate and informed advice to the parishes.

Bob was the Cornwall Council appointed person to oversee the creation of the new parish of Tregony with Cuby in 2021 (resulting from the merger of Tregony Parish Council with Cuby Parish Meeting). He wrote the employment contract for the clerk of the new parish, wrote the standing orders and financial regulations, set the budget and precept for the first year, oversaw the setting up of the website for the council (see Tregony with Cuby), and ensured that the new body got off to the right start. He was elected to serve on the new parish council in May 2021 and served for a year as chairman helping the council to bed into its new format.

Bob is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office as a Data Controller, registration number Z9758841
